Irene Lilienheim Angelico’s parents are both Survivors, who married secretly by candlelight after the Nazis invaded Warsaw.
Angelico is the winner of numerous international awards for directing and producing, and Gemini for best writing. She and Abbey Neidik made Dark Lullabies about the effects of the Holocaust on the next generation of Jews and Germans, which has been screened worldwide and selected for The Fifty Greatest Documentaries at the international Salute to the Documentary.
Angelico went on to direct and write award-winners including Black Coffee; Inside the Great Magazines; The Cola Conquest (Best Documentary Series, Hot Docs; Silver Hugo, Chicago); and to produce Vendetta Song (CIDA Prize, Best Documentary- Quebec Film Critics, Calgary, Female Eye); Unbreakable Minds, about mental illness; and Shekinah: the Intimate Lives of Hasidic Women. She also edited two books, The Aftermath: A Survivor’s Odyssey Through War-Torn Europe, written by her father, Henry Lilienheim and The Third Seder: A Haggadah for Yom HaShoah with Yehudi Lindeman. Angelico is currently in post-production with the feature version of Reaching for Zion and is releasing First to Stand, about the internationally renowned human right lawyer, Irwin Cotler and the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights.
