Robert Lantos was born in April 1949 in Budapest, Hungary, the son of Ágnes Bodor and László Lantos, both Holocaust Survivors.
Lantos spent much of his childhood in Montevideo, Uruguay, where his family fled after the Hungarian Revolution. He immigrated to Canada in 1963. He was previously married to actress Jennifer Dale, with whom he has two children, Sabrina and Ari Lantos.
Lantos produced 40 feature films, including In Praise of Older Women; Joshua Then and Now; Black Robe; Léolo (Genie Awards, Toronto International Film Festival); Exotica ( International Critic’s Prize); Crash (Cannes Special Jury Prize); The Sweet Hereafter (Cannes Grand Prix); Existenz (Berlin Silver Bear); Sunshine (Genie Award); Being Julia; Where the Truth Lies (Genie Award); Fugitive Pieces, (Audience Award, Sydney Film Festival); Adoration (Cannes Ecumenical Prize), Barney’s Version (Golden Globe); Remember: (Canadian Screen Awards); The Song of Names: and Canadian domestic box office phenomenon Men with Brooms. His television credits include the series: Night Heat; E.N.G.; and North of 60.
Lantos is a member of the Order of Canada, an inductee to the Canadian Film and Television Hall of Fame and Television Hall of Fame and winner of the Feature Film Producer’s Award.
